The word contentment is defined as a state of happiness and satisfaction. Many women at this very moment, of course, are seeking contentment in their marriages, their motherhood journey, and even within their spiritual walk.
If you watch television you are led to believe that contentment can come from items. Pieces of jewelry, a new type of car, special articles of clothing and even certain types of diet plans. Of course when those things don’t help they have medications that you can buy. There is a reason that the advertising companies are marketing this way, it is because convincing you that contentment can be obtained by material possessions is lining their pockets and they know that it simply will not feel the need so you will simply just keep buying.
Of course, this isn’t limited to just television marketing companies. Bloggers actually target you and other bloggers with the latest and greatest ideas and schemes while lining their pockets as well. (Yep, just lost some blogging friends there) So is the social media that we all use almost daily. I mean hello, it isn’t by sheer accident that things pop up in your newsfeed on FB, Pinterest, twitter and Instagram. Seeking contentment is making a lot of different venues rich or at least comfortable.
The problem with seeking contentment through these different avenues is that none of them will ever be able to fulfill you. These things are filled with the worldly thoughts of what contentment should look like. We can perfect all the ideas we find on Pinterest and buy all the goodies we see on television and we will still be just as miserable as when we first started. Nothing our neighbor, marketing company, or even or favorite blogger could ever offer will ever help us achieve contentment.
God is our only hope to ever be truly content with ourselves and our placement in our lives. Learning contentment can only be achieved when we stop chasing worldly things and start chasing Heavenly things. Of course, this is only achieved by digging deep into God’s Word, applying what we uncover in our own lives and seeking only to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father.
Contentment can not be defined by another individual and trust me we all forget that at some point or another in our lives. Remember those marketing companies? Yea, they bank on this hope that you will compare yourselves to other people that you see on television.
The Hard Facts About Contentment:
- Contentment is different for everyone.
- Contentment can not be bought in any store.
- Contentment isn’t found on any social media source.
