We have all been guilty of performing this one sure fire way of wrecking our marriages. Your husband is driving you crazy, of course, he isn’t seeing things the way that you see them and off to the phone you go to your girlfriend so you can “seek advice”. The problem is that most of the time that advice turns into a bashing session. That bashing session turns into a who’s husband is worse and who is struggling the most. Ultimately to make yourself look like the wife who has it the hardest.
Here is the thing. That moment we decided that we needed to step outside of our marriage to rant about our marriage to another individual we basically sent a signal to that individual that we do not respect our husband. After all, had respect been in place we would have went discussed how we were feeling with our husband with him and not outside sources.
Instead of having bashing sessions with other people about our men we should truly strive to build them up to others. We should seek professional help from a counselor or preacher when we feel we have an issue in our marriages that can not be resolved between our husbands. Instead of wrecking our marriages by allowing others and the world to see how much we truly do not care about their feelings or their reputation in the community.
As wives, we need to strive to protect our husbands not destroy.
As wives, we need to strive to protect our marriages instead of inviting trouble into our marriages.
As wives, we need to strive to focus on the great things about our husband and not the negative.
As wives, we need to strive to build up our marriages not wreck them with thoughtless conversations.
To Break This Habit We Should Ask Ourselves:
- If my husband were to be saying these things about me would they hurt me or would they be a blessing to me?
- Could I say these particular things to my husband?
- Would I be concerned if my husband was told about this conversation?
- Am I building up my husband or am I causing others to view him in a unrespectable light?
The truth is every marriage is going to have hard times. In any given season of our marriages, we will have a difference of opinion and this is natural. However, we have to chose not to wreck our marriages just because of these moments.
